History of the Nevada Quilt Guild
At the written invitation of Founder, Kathleen Flanagan-Lower, a small group of quilters gathered in March of 2008, in the Churchill County Museum in Fallon, NV, to discuss the possibility and viability of forming a quilt guild for the State of Nevada serving rural Nevada quilters similar to the Utah Quilt Guild and several other states. The focus would be on serving chartered quilt guilds from all over the State of Nevada with grant funding to support their local quilt shows, supplementing the cost of programs using a network of national teachers in local areas, hosting quilting retreats and producing an annual State of Nevada Quilt Show and Outdoor Festival, providing the opportunity for quilters to display and to sell their quilts in a common marketplace. The NQG founding quilters wanted to develop a program of educating youth in the history, methods and skills of quilt making, thereby fulfilling the new guilds perceived purpose.
