NEVADA YOUTH QUILTING PROGRAM

"Nevada Kids Quilting" & "Nevada Teens Quilting"

 

To provide year-round education to rural Nevada youth in the art

of quilting and fiber arts. (Exerpt from NQG Mission Statement)

This Youth Education program is divided into two age groups, 10 – 13 year olds, under the name "Nevada Kids Quilting" and 14 – 17 year olds, under the name "Nevada Teens Quilting". Class instructions for each age group are as follows:

 I.     Introduction to Sewing

II.     Introduction to the Sewing Machine

III.   Introduction to Piecing

IV.  Introduction to Quilting

V.   Workshop - A 2-day workshop in which the beginning quilters will create a donation quilt for the Quilts of Valor project.

Each age group will include projects within each of the above set of classes that are age appropriate.

Each Chartered Chapter Member group will be responsible to present the program in their communities. Students can be gathered from children’s programs in their communities, i.e.: local schools/clubs; sewing teachers; fabric shops; Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts; churches; Boys and Girls Clubs; local quilting community, 4-H chapters, etc.

Parents are encouraged to participate in the classes.

Lesson plans and instructional materials are maintained by Board of Directors of the Nevada Quilt Guild. Copies will be provided to Chartered Chapters upon request.

Nevada Quilt Guild will maintain a master list of teachers and assistants for this program and make it available to Chartered Chapters upon request.
